1011RECORDS

We have always been fascinated by stories at One nought One One. This time around, we decided to share those stories with you as #1011records!

It takes immense courage to break stereotypes, smash norms and stand out. Through our journey, we have met several people who stand out for a statement they said, a trip they took, an animal they rescued, a book they read, or an accessory they wore. They have stood out for their journey, for their story. And we wish to record and share their bold and spirited stories through our jewelry.

Sobia Ameen is a jack of all trades – model, architect, baker and a social media influencer. Her personal style is sui generis saris being at the centre! She has gone far but never left her Bangladeshi roots behind. Through her roots, she has a captivating way to express herself. While she denies carrying power as an influencer, we think she rules it!

1) You have an exceptionally unique style. Where does your style come from, and where do you get your inspiration?

I get my inspiration mostly from art and architecture but I am heavily influenced by how people dressed in the past.

2) You don multiple hats: that of a baker, architect, model. Tell us a bit about your journey. What makes you explore new territories?

Boredom mostly, I enjoy challenging myself and my boundaries. I trained as an architect and then realized I could use those skills as a baker as well, which led me to baking on the side. Modeling happened much later and is probably what I enjoy the most because in most cases I am given a lot of freedom as a content creator. I get to express myself a lot more in the process than with any other hats.

3) Do you see yourself as an “influencer”, and if so, what does that mean to you?

I know I’m referred to as an “influencer” on a daily basis but I am not sure if I would like to refer to myself as one. The word influencer to me is someone that carries a lot of power in today’s world, the ability to convince people to do things- I personally do not think I preserve that much clout- at least not yet.

4) What do you love most about being on social media?

The reach and the amount of content that is available in the world, from around the world and with the different perspectives is what I love the most about social media. Finding information is so much easier because of it.

5) You are from Bangladesh. Can you tell us about the fashion scene there? Do you follow any style icons from India? What is different between these two cultures?

The fashion scene in Bangladesh is very different to India as there is unique craftsmanship in each of the countries which allows the exploration of different styles. There are so many style icons in India to choose from, I cannot choose just one. There are more similarities in the two cultures than differences, having been one country in the past reflects in so many of the cultural aspects.

6) Tell us something about yourself that not a lot of people know about?

I am not sure if there is anything that I can do and not mentioned before.

7) Tell us about the influence of jewelry in your life? Are you a junkie? What kind of jewelry appeals to you the most?

Tell us about the influence of jewelry in your life? Are you a junkie? What kind of jewelry appeals to you the most?
I might be a jewelry collector but I wouldn’t call myself a junkie. Statement pieces appeal to me the most. I have realized I like large pieces when I dress up but on casual days, something simple works just as well for me.
